SAT
....
When people find out I help people prepare for the SAT , they sometimes
say:
"Students don't need help, do they? The SATs measure basic
intelligence, so students can't really study for them anyway...."
These people are almost correct. The SATs do measure a certain type of intelligence. And students don't have to have help.
But students can study for them.... And with our one-to-one individual help, students can study most efficiently for the SATs.
OUR SAT TUTORING APPROACH
We initially give everyone a Diagnostic Test. We proceed from that
point to work out individually what each student needs. The typical
topics that we cover are listed below.
To what depth we cover each topic varies according to the individual.
* General Test-taking Strategy.
* Algebra (Word Problems).
* Vocabulary Building.
* Geometry Problems.
* Critical Reading.
* Grid-In Questions.
* Sentence Completion Questions.
* Math Shortcuts.
* Arithmetic & "Logic" Problems.
* Test Anxiety.
* Algebra (Non-word Problems).
* Essay writing.
* Identifying Sentence Errors.
* Improving Sentences.
* Improving Paragraphs.
We
give students an understanding of the SAT and enable them to develop a
successul strategy for approaching the exam. We review necessary
material, but always with an eye as to how to answer the questions
quickly. And we give specific hints on how to guess an answer when the
answer is not obvious or would take too long to work out by a
conventional method.
We cannot eliminate all test anxiety, but we can enable students to do as well as they can on this exam.
